Gutter covers/guards are potentially very important for every home owner to have installed. The reason being is that you will want to keep your gutters in the best working order that you can. Gutters shouldn’t be overlooked because they are very important if you want to ensure your home stays in good order and doesn’t develop costly problems. Guttering is also used as a great method of collecting rainwater for those months of the year where rainfall is pretty low or even non-existent.
A major complaint that home owners often have is that their gutter get clogged up with leaves and other types of debris. This of course normally happens in the spring and also the fall. This is the perfect reason to have gutter guards or gutter covers installed because it will help your gutters carry out the function it was intended for. The gutter guards do this in a number of different methods.
The different types of gutter guards are produced from different materials and made into different designs. The leaf guard and the gutter topper are the two main types of systems on the market. The leaf guard is the simplest and most basic system you can buy and is basically just a wire mesh which is positioned on top of the gutters. However it should be noted that not all leaf guards are created equall and some are better than others. If there is too much of a gap between the mesh then you will find that smaller particles of debris can make their way in. Debris such as pine needles. However there is also the potential of the other problem in that the mesh might be so tightly made that even water has trouble getting its way through.
Then of course there is a product called a gutter topper. You will see that there are many companies producing gutter toppers and the products can be made from plastic, metal or polymers. The good news is that they come in different colors so you should be able to find somthign to match your home. The reason that this system works is because the water gets channelled along the edge whilst keeping any unwated debris out. They can also be bought to withstand ice and snow so this is something you might want to ask about if you live in an area prone to cold weather.
It’s very difficult to say wether the leaf guard is better or the gutter topper is better. At the end of the day, it will all come down to your personal choice along with the cost. There simply isn’t any point in paying more for a system when the cheaper one will work perfectly well. If your house is situated very close to lots of trees or if you get a lot of snow or ice then this will also influence your buying choice. The better quality product would be better suited to your gutter cover needs.
